Types of Dental Implants

As the only dental restoration that replaces tooth roots, dental implants are a life-changing solution. Dental implants provide unmatched stability, a natural appearance, and ongoing benefits to a patient’s oral health. As a dental implant dentist in Lincoln, Dr. Andrew R. Glenn is specially trained to handle even the most challenging dental implant cases. Whether you are missing one, many, or all of your teeth, we will work closely with you to determine the best type of implant to meet your unique needs and goals. Schedule a consultation at our practice today to learn more.

Replacing a Single Lost Tooth

Traditional dental implants are designed to restore function to a single missing tooth. After a biocompatible titanium post is embedded into the jaw, it will fuse with the surrounding bone over a healing period that typically takes between four to six months. Once healing is complete, an abutment will be placed, serving as the point of connection with a crown or denture.

All-On-4®

For patients who have lost all of their teeth on one or both dental ridges, a complete denture can be secured by a number of dental implants. Depending on the health and condition of the patient’s jaw, Dr. Glenn may recommend the All-On-4® technique, which utilizes four carefully placed implants. This innovative technique provides maximum support for dentures while minimizing the extent of oral surgery needed.

Same-day Implants Available

Our goal is to provide all of our patients with a comfortable, seamless experience, regardless of their specific needs. In our efforts to maintain that goal, Dr. Glenn can often place the final restoration on the same day that dental implants are placed. Same-day implants are surgically embedded using a minimally invasive procedure, and Dr. Glenn will collaborate with your restorative dentist and a trusted dental lab to provide the appropriate restoration. Immediately after the implants are surgically inserted into the jawbone, your dental crown, bridge, or denture can be secured to the connective abutments on the prosthetic roots.

Mini Dental Implants (MDI)

One of the most important benefits of dental implants is their ability to preserve jawbone health by replacing vital root stimulation. When teeth absorb the pressure of biting and chewing, the stimulated roots facilitate a healthy blood flow and supply of nutrients to the jawbone. When a tooth is lost or extracted, the jawbone can slowly atrophy as bone cells are resorbed by the body. Patients who have worn dentures for years frequently experience slippage because of jawbone deterioration, and periodically require a readjustment or a replacement dental prosthetic. If you suffer from a weak jawbone, but want to stabilize your dentures for improved performance, then you may benefit from mini dental implants (MDI). MDIs are smaller than traditional implants and can help patients with insufficient jawbone mass enjoy more stable dentures without the need for bone grafting.
