Cone Beam CT Scanner

In order to provide his patients with the highest level of care, Dr. Andrew R. Glenn uses a range of advanced technology, including digital dental x-rays, at his Lincoln, NE, practice. Using our cone beam computerized tomography (CT) scanner, we can combine a series of digital x-rays taken from different angles to create a detailed three-dimensional image of your jaw and oral structures. These cone beam scans allow Dr. Glenn to create detailed treatment plans for corrective jaw surgery and dental implants placement procedures. Cone Beam Scans Explained

Cone beam technology makes dental imaging easier, more accurate, and more efficient than other more traditional techniques. During a scan, a digital x-ray machine that is mounted on a rotating arm will move quickly and very quietly around your head in order to generate a panoramic image of your entire craniofacial structure. Unlike traditional x-rays, cone beam scans create a highly detailed three-dimensional image that can be viewed at different angles in order to examine the relationships between bones, teeth, airways, nerves, and oral tissues. Cone beam scans can also be greatly magnified on an exam room computer, allowing Dr. Glenn to better explain your diagnosis and help you select the best course of treatment based on your individual needs and preferences.

Enhancing the Precision of Oral Surgery

Cone beam scans are particularly beneficial when planning an oral surgery procedure. Using the detailed images created by cone beam scans, Dr. Glenn can examine your jaw alignment and diagnose overbites, underbites, crossbites, and other similar issues with increased accuracy. In addition, Dr. Glenn also uses cone beam imaging to plan implant placement and bone grafting procedures. Dental implants are very small metal posts that are placed in the jaw to act as artificial tooth roots. In order to receive dental implants, patients must have a stable foundation of healthy bone volume in their jaw. With cone beam scans, we can evaluate your candidacy for this advanced restorative treatment by examining the strength of your jaw and looking for signs of bone recession. These scans also help Dr. Glenn determine the optimal placement locations for the surgically embedded posts. At most other practices, you would need to go to an outside facility to receive cone beam scans, which would typically only be performed before undergoing treatment. Since we have an in-office scanner, we can also take follow-up scans to ensure proper healing weeks and months after surgery.
